(Mary West) Thank you for taking some time with me today for a “Get-To-Know-You” Interview! For my 1st Question, do you prefer to be called “Scott” or “Dj Scott” ?

(DJ Scott) I have no preference, either one is good. Most of my friends & business owners that I network with, call me DJ Scott. Many people also call me “Scott”. Just don’t call me “Alfred”

(Mary West) Very funny, I will make note not to call you Rufus or Alfred. So Alfred, How did you get started in the DJ/Emcee/Trivia Game Show business?

(DJ Scott) :::smile::: I started providing my entertainment services in June of 1988 (I was a young teenager, and was doing it as a hobby) My 1st event was a Town Festival called “Daisy Days”. After that event, I was hooked. I used to use services similar to this dj promo pool and that really helped me excel in my career. I enjoyed DJing so much and I instantly knew that it would be my job forever. It’s a passion!

(Mary West) What things do you do at an event that makes it fun, besides the music of course?

(DJ Scott) There are MANY things. (Many I won’t reveal in this interview, because they are “Trade Secrets” that I go over with my VIPs when I meet with them, then they get to choose which ones fit in the vision they have for their wedding/event and which ones don’t.) I give my VIPs (I call my clients “VIPs”) an opportunity to choose whether I am “Non-Interactive”, “Somewhat Interactive”, or “Very Interactive”. Interactive activities make an event Extra Fun, Memorable, Exciting, Unique… For example, I can do Ice Breakers, Contests, Trivia, Teach New Dances, Interactive Wedding Activities, Games & more! (An example of one of my most requested interactive activities at a wedding is called “The Generation Dance”. During this dance, I will invite all of the married couples on the dance floor, and play a slow song. I tell them over the microphone, “When you hear me say, on the microphone, how long you were married, please leave the dance floor”. Then a minute into the slow song I will say “If you have been married for Less than 5 years (EXCEPT the Bride & Groom) Please leave the dance floor.”, Then a minute later, I will say “If you have been married less than 10 years (EXCEPT the Bride & Groom) Please leave the dance floor.”, . . . then 20 years, . . . then 30 years / 40 years / 50 years… Then at the end of the dance, I have The “Youngest Married Couple (The Bride & The Groom)” dancing with the “Oldest Married Couple”. I bring the microphone onto the dance floor, and ask the “Oldest Married Couple 2 questions: (1st) How long have you been married? (2nd) What advice would you give the bride & groom for having a long and lasting marriage?

(Mary West) WOW, that sounds fun! Can you tell us a fun story from one of your events?

(DJ Scott) Definitely! However I have MANY !! The 1st one that comes to mind is a wedding that I was doing, and the Banquet manager (and friend of mine) informed me that the group “Kool In The Gang” was having dinner in their restaurant! They told me not to ask them for their autograph, because they didn’t want to “scare them away” 🙂 So after about 15-30 minutes, I decided to play the song “Ladies Night” by Kool & The Gang, and walk over to say Hi to them. When I met them, I told them that I was the DJ at the wedding, and I have played their songs at many of my events. They said “Thank you! Do you think the Bride & Groom would like us to come over to say Hi so that we can congratulate them on their wedding?” (WOW) I said “Definitely! When you are ready, feel free to come over to the wedding, when I see you at the door, I will introduce you and play one of your songs” (Then the rest is History, except for, when Kool & The Gang congratulated the Bride & Groom on their wedding, they also gave them 2 free back stage passes to one of their events.) The Bride & Groom thanked me at the end of the event.

(Mary West) That was Amazing!! How exciting that must have been!! So, are you married? children?

(DJ Scott) Yes! I am married to my wonderful wife “Jacquelyn” and we have 2 children “Maxwell & Paxton”

(Mary West) What would you say is your “Greatest Accomplishment” in your career?

(DJ Scott) Again, there are many! The 1st one that comes to mind, was when I entered a nationwide contest for “DJ Of The Year”. There was a 4 step process for being considered as a candidate. The 1st step was to enter in video footage of me in action. Then the panel of judges narrowed their search to, what they considered as their “Top 100 Candidates”. (They chose me to be in this group) Then all 100 candidates traveled to Atlantic City, for an audition in front of the panel of judges. Then the judges deliberated and narrowed their group of 100 down to what they considered was the “Top 12 Wedding & Event DJs in the nation” (They chose me to be in this group). Then they had the 12 of us audition on stage in front of 3,000 DJs to compete to be the “DJ Of The Year”. (THE BAD NEWS) I was not chosen as the “DJ Of The Year” (THE GOOD NEWS) I was chosen as one of the TOP 12 Wedding/Event DJs in the Nation! I was Overjoyed to say the least.

(Mary West) That IS QUITE an accomplishment !! What is your “Service Area?” & How far will you travel?

(DJ Scott) My service area is VERY broad! I perform at A LOT of events in the areas of Kitsap, Orlando, Clermont, Minneola, Puget Sound, Puyallup, Sequim, West Sound . . . I have performed at many out-of-state events too.

(Mary West) So basically anywhere?

(DJ Scott) Well, I have not performed on the moon yet, but that would be AWESOME!

(Mary West) You are TOO funny! Why do people choose to hire you instead of other Wedding & Event DJs?

(DJ Scott) You mean besides my Charming Personality?

(Mary West) Yes :::smile:::

(DJ Scott) A lot of that is also “Revealed” during my consultations with my VIPs (Current Clients / Future Clients). Unfortunately, I have had a handful of DJ Services try to Duplicate many of the things that I do, so I now wait to reveal, a lot of my “Trade Secrets” until I meet with my VIPs in person. (and even then, I have unfortunately caught DJ companies sending “Fake Clients” to have consultations with me, to get some of my “Trade Secrets” for them. Its very unfortunate. ON THE POSITIVE SIDE: I have MANY “DJ Friends” that I send A LOT of business to, when I am booked up for a given day, since we book up fast, ESPECIALLY on Saturdays during the months of January, February, March, May, June, July, August, September, October, December.

(Mary West) Businesses should have integrity & professionalism. One last question. People talk about DJs playing music “too loud”, playing music that has bad lyrics, DJs drinking alcohol, being unprofessional . . . You don’t seem to be a DJ that would fall into that category.

(DJ Scott) A few of the many reasons our VIPs choose to hire us, is because we are Completely “Family-Friendly” (Which means that we have ALL the music that they want to hear, HOWEVER, ALL of the “Vulgar Lyrics” have been removed, so that your parents, grandparents, children… can ALL enjoy them selves at your event. We even back-up all of our “Promises” with a 100% Money Back Satisfaction Guarantee “IN WRITING”, so that you know we will follow through with our promises. 2 of my favorite quotes are: Quality means doing it right when no one is looking” – Henry Ford Some / “Some will do their jobs well and some will not, but all will be judged by only one thing . . .the result.” – Vince Lombardi

(Mary West) Thank you for your time, Alfred (I mean “DJ Scott”). I can see why many people refer their friends/family (that are having a wedding or special event.) to You. It was Very nice to Get To Know You more.

(DJ Scott) The pleasure was all mine! I can also see why MANY people call you the “Queen of Networking”. You are a Great Connector of business owners & businesses. Not only that, but you are also a GREAT Author. “Your ultimate Sales Force: 159 Strategies to Generate Referrals and Be Worthy of Them!” and a new book you will be revealing next year. ( I can not wait to read that) We also enjoy your friend, Patrick Snow’s, book: Creating Your Own Destiny”.
